Activity 1:
In their same groups the students will work on
moving around the table to use both the
forehand and backhand shots for table tennis.
There will be two people on each side of the
table and after one person hits the ball to the
other side, they then go over to the side they
hit it to, moving around the table in a
clockwise fashion. The students will be
asked to follow their shots as they pass it
back and forth over the net making sure to
use both the forehand and the backhand
shots.
Extension UP: Have the students use only
the forehand shot for a few minutes then
have the students use only the backhand
shot for a few minutes.
Extension DOWN: Have the students stay
on their own side of the table so that they do
not have to move around the table.
Demonstration: I will have four students
show this as I am explaining the activity and
again going over the key points of each type
of shot.
Check for Understanding: How are we
moving around the table? (Clockwise)
What two hits are we focusing on? (forehand
and backhand)
Transition:
I will have the students leave their paddles
and table tennis balls on the tables and bring
it in and explain the next activity.
Activity 2: Double Elimination Singles
Tournament
In this activity all of the students will pick their
seeding from a hat and they will be put into
two eleven person tournament formats with
double elimination brackets. Once they have
their seedings numbers 6-11 on both brackets
will play their first game and it will go on from
there. In the double elimination style you are

not out until you lose two games so it gives

the students more opportunities to participate.
Once a player gets eliminated then they will
have the opportunity to play against other
eliminated players as there gets to be less
and less people still in tournament play. Ms.
Lussier wanted the tournament to be singles
and I choose to use the double elimination
format for more OTRs for students. Attached
is a copy of the brackets I will be using for the
tournaments.
Rules and Regulations:
Games are played to 11, but for teaching
sake it will be three minute games and
whoever has more points at the end will move
on
You must win by two
A point is scored on every play not just on
your own serve
Each player serves twice in a row then it
switches to the other player
For a serve the ball must bounce first on the
servers side then on the opponent's side
A serve cannot touch the net, if it does touch
the net the service is redone.
A point is scored if:
The ball hits the ground
The ball bounces twice on your side
The ball doesnt make it over the net
The service is not good or not a let
The ball is hit twice on one side
When the game is over I will ask the winning
person to come over and state that they won
and then the students will wait for the
announcement of the next round in both
brackets and all games
Check for Understanding:
What is one way you can score in TT? (cause
the ball to bounce twice on your opponent's
side)
In the tournament how many losses are you
allowed to still be in the running to win? (one
loss double elimination)
Transition:

I will have all of the students pick up their

paddle and TT ball and put them back in the
correct place then bring it in for closure.

Closure:
I will bring the students in and go over how
they think the tournament went what skills
they used in the tournament that they have
learned in class and then go over once more
the forehand and backhand key points and
then have the students fill out an exit slip.
