Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)

Total pts. = 5
A. Write brief overview - (i.e. what is it; when did it pass; why is it
important; impact on health and physical education; etc.)
The Every Student Succeeds Act is an act that reformed the No Child Left Behind
Act and it is something that is being implemented in schools in hopes of improving
education and preparing students better for college and their careers. It passed on
December 10, 2015. This act is important because it has to do with childrens
education, and has to do with the field we are going into as future educators. It has
impacted Physical and Health education because these classes now get to receive the
funding that they need and are considered to be more important now than they were
before this act.

B. Write personal reflection - (i.e. opinion; role as a future health and/or

physical educator moving forward with this legislation)
For me as a future health and physical educator I believe that this law passing is
a step in the right direction because of how many schools dont have proper funding to
be able to maintain the equipment needed in their physical education classes, and
maybe the passing of this law will help people to acknowledge the importance that
physical education really has on students and why all of the cuts that were happening in
this field are no longer going to be happening. It is also good because students will
know that these ideas they are learning in physical education and health education are
important and why they need to know about it.
