• The aim of the project is to analyze the


Crime data from Boston and create a
Visualization dashboard which tells the
story and trends of crimes that happen in
Boston. The dataset is obtained from
Kaggle, and the data records begin in June
14, 2015 and continue to September 3,
2018.
• The project is a Data Analytics project
which would require use of Business
Intelligence techniques and technologies to
perform the data analysis and produce
results that are helpful to the stake holders.

Outcome

The project outcome would be an interactive dashboard that provides users with insights and
visualizations related to crimes in Boston. The dashboard would include:
• Interactive visualizations showcasing crime trends, distributions, and rates.
• Summary statistics and relevant filters to enable user exploration.
• The ability for users to interact with the dashboard, filter data, and explore specific areas of interest.
• Comprehensive documentation detailing the data analysis process, including data cleaning, modeling,
and visualization techniques used.
• A comprehensive report summarizing the findings, insights, and recommendations derived from the
data analysis.
• Clear and concise documentation for the code, algorithms, and methodologies implemented.
• The dashboard would serve as a tool for stakeholders and users to understand and analyze crime data
in Boston, enabling them to make informed decisions and identify patterns or areas of concern.

• The scope of the project is to analyze the
Crimes in Boston dataset and create an
interactive visualization dashboard that
showcases insights and trends in crime
data. The project aims to answer specific
questions such as the most common types
of crimes, crime rates in different
neighborhoods and districts, trends over the

Retrieved the Crimes in Boston dataset
from Kaggle and verifying its
appropriateness.

Data Description: The "Crimes in Boston"
dataset available on Kaggle provides
information about reported crimes in the
city of Boston from years 2015 to 2018.
Below are few details of the data:
Total Rows: 319073
Total Columns: 17
Years: 2015 to 2018

2. Tools and Technology selection:


Analyzing and finalizing the tools and
technologies required for data cleansing,
analysis, and visualization. Acquiring
licenses or installing the necessary tools is
completed as part of this.

 Tools Finalized: Microsoft Excel,


Microsoft word, Microsoft PowerPoint,
Power BI.
 Technology: Business Intelligence,
Data Modelling, Agile Methodologies.

3. Data Cleansing:
Performing data cleaning and preprocessing tasks to ensure data quality. Handling missing values,
duplicates, and inconsistencies in the dataset are covered in this phase of the project.
Below are the data cleansing steps that are performed on the data:
1. Duplicates: Removed duplicate rows. We have used MS Excel data tab to remove duplicate values. 23
rows have been identified duplicate and are removed.
The number of rows left after removing duplicates are: 319050
2. Missing Values: Missing values in SHOOTING column have been filled. Apart from that there are no
discrepancies in the data.
3. Data Consistency: The data is consistent and does not have any unidentified issues.
