24 Volt Electrical System
24 Volt Electrical System

• Description of System

• System Components
DESCRIPTION
The electrical system is a 24-volt, negative ground system with two 12-volt batteries connected in
series to supply 24 volts for the starter and the electrical accessories. A 24-volt alternator with integral
voltage regulation is installed in this system for powering the accessories and keeping the batteries
charged. Tracing the current from the positive side of the batteries (conventional flow), current travels
to the fuses that control various accessories. When the key is on, the batteries supply power to other
fuses which control other accessories. The circuits to the individual components are completed
through their respective grounds and through the machine frame to the battery ground connections.

Battery Disconnect removes the battery

ground which removes all battery power.

Component Location
Access to the Vehicle Electric Centers,
CCU and many of the other electrical
system components are located behind
the operator’s seat in the cab.

The access panel, behind the operator’s

seat, can be removed. On the back is a
chart with the VEC layouts. The outer
panel can be removed to gain access to
the Control Units.

Accumulator Bleed-Down Timer

When the truck is shutdown, the Bleed down Timer energizes the
Bleed down solenoid valve in the RCB valve, to allow the hydraulic
fluid stored in the steering accumulator to flow back to tank.
Inclinometer

Inclinometer
Location

The inclinometer is located in the center console. It receives 5V from

the CCU. On perfectly flat we will see 2.5 volts out for the X axis and 2.5
volts out for the Y axis.

Warning Lights – Caution Indicator
This yellow light illuminates for less critical warnings
in the system. It informs the operator that a function
needs to be kept under observation This lamp will
come on when errors occur for any of the following
faults
• Clogged Filter
• High Engine Coolant Temperature
• Engine Service
• Parking Brake Malfunction
• High Transmission Temperature
• Alternator Malfunction
Warning Lights – Stop Engine
This red light flashes if any critical condition arises requiring
the engine to be shut down. This lamp will come on when
errors occur for any of the following major faults:
• Reverse Inhibit Warning
• Low Engine Oil Pressure
• High Engine Coolant Temperature
• Low Engine Coolant Level
• Engine Over-speed
• Low Transmission Oil Pressure
• High Transmission Oil

Hoist Lever

This electrical four-position hoist control lever is electrically connected to the

CCU which controls the PWM’s on the Hoist Control Valve.

WARNING: When the body is being raised or lowered, the Load/Dump

Brake switch should be activated and the machine should be in
“NEUTRAL” to prevent machine movement .
