Lighting design needs to work on 2 levels:
 Functionally
 Aesthetically
Lighting Designers responsibilities

Lighting designers are responsible for designing, installing, and operating the
lighting and special electrical effects used in the production. 
To show where the lighting equipment will be placed, the lighting designer
produces a light plot specifying the placement of all instruments used in the
production.
RESPONSIBILITES FOR DRAMA NIGHT

To prepare for the drama night performance, people involved in producing the
lighting plan need to:
 Designate a script to write everything down in,
 Discuss lighting with everyone regarding their scene and how they want it to
look,
 Put the requirements on the script in detail,
 Give the script to Mr Crossie.

How does
When dramatic tensions is starting to build in the
lighting add to production, lighting should dim to a noticeable point to
display the shift in atmosphere. For example, when Gino
the dramatic stumbles back home all beaten, bleeding and bruised,
lighting should start to dim to illustrate the severity of the
tension of ‘The situation.

Shifting Heart’
Ideas/Suggestions
•Considering The Shifting Heart is a Representational Production, fancy, colourful and
patterned lights are not necessary. They would not fit into the play, instead confuse the
audience and lessen the messages presented in the play, as obscure lighting would be ill
fitting.

•Instead natural light would fit the productions better, depending on the time of day, and
severity of the scene, that is how much is going on and how it adds to the atmosphere.

Natural light, in this instance would be mostly white to show it is daytime in the scenes,
however lighting may be too harsh so the haze machines might have to be incorporated into
the lighting plan. This creates a softer light.
