MAJORITY RELIGION OF
BALINESE ?

BECAUSE THAT MAKES THE ISLAND OF BALI THE


ONLY ISLAND WITH HINDU INHABITANTS EVEN
THOUGH THE INHABITANTS OF THE SURROUNDING
ISLANDS HAVE EMBRACED ISLAMIC RELIGION CAN’T
BE SEPARATED FROM THE HISTORY OF THE HINDU
KINGDOM (MAJAPAHIT) AND ISLAM (MATARAM) IN THE
PAST

GALUNGAN DAY

SIWARATRI DAY

At that time, the people are expected to do asceticism, brata yoga all
day and all night, without sleeping if possible without eating. But at
least, the people are made to be able to mejagra (literacy) all day and all
night long.
It is celebrated once a year according to the Saka calendar, on Tilem
(dead month) sasih Kepitu.
LOCATION OF BALINESE
Bali is a province of Indonesia and the western most of the
Lesser Sunda Islands. Located east of Java and west of Lombok,
the province includes the island of Bali and a few smaller
neighbouring islands. The provincial capital, Denpasar, is the most
populous city in the Lesser Sunda Islands.

The island of Bali lies 4 km east of Java, and is approximately


8 degrees south of the equator. Bali and Java are separated by the
Bali Strait. East to west, the island is approximately 153 km wide
and spans approximately 112 km north to south.
