PIN WORM

(ENTEROBIASIS)
Pin worm
(Enterobiasis)
• Small, white, threadlike worms that live in
the cecum.
• Commonly occur among children
• Develop over a period of 2 months in
cecum
• Migrates out of the anus

Caused by Enterobius vermicularis


Risk Factors

• Children under 18
• Children who suck their thumbs
• People who chew their fingernails
• Contact with infected children
• Institutionalized people
• People who may not practice handwashing prior to eating
Assessment
• Physical examination
• History taking
• Tape test
Nursing Diagnosis

• Risk for impaired skin integrity related to intense perianal


scratching.
• Acute pain related to smooth muscle spasm
• Imbalance Nutrition: less than body requirements related
to anorexia and vomiting.
• Hyperthermia related to decrease in circulation
Management

• Instruct client to keep fingernails trimmed to prevent


excoriations, and to avoid scratching the area.
• Diminish pain. An antihelminthic medication should be
prescribed to patient with enterobiasis.
• Teach the patient how to perform proper hygiene, and to
avoid nail-biting.
• Diminish increase in temperature
