READING
• Reading is a complex cognitive process of decoding symbols in
order to construct or derive meaning. Reading is a means of language
acquisition, communication, and sharing information and ideas. 
• Like all language it is a complex interaction between the text and the
reader which is shaped by the readers prior knowledge experiences
attitude and language community which is culturally and socially
situated.
      " A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies.... The man who
never reads lives only one."
Meaning and Definition

• Reading means to understand the
meaning of printed words that is,
written symbols. It implies reading
with comprehension.
Importance of reading
• Reading is needed to learn a
language. Where there is little
reading , there is little language
learning.
• In everyday life , we have to
read notices, forms , bills,
direction, bus and train
timetable, place names and
street signs.
• We read for pleasure. We enjoy
reading letters from friends,
articles, magazines etc.
• Reading increases our general
knowledge and widens our
mental horizon.
READING IS THE KEY TO LEARNING
• Reading in its fullest sense involves weaving together word recognition and
comprehension in a fluent manner. These processes are complex and each is
important.    

 To develop word recognition children need to learn


      
• How to break apart and manipulate the sound in watch this is phonetic awareness.
• Certain letters are used to represent certain sound disease alphabetic principle
example s and h makes the / sh /sound.
