WORKPLACE STANDARDS

AND

PROCEDURES IN ELECTRICAL
WIRING
Workplace Standards and
procedures in electrical wiring
are two distinct functions :
 WORKPLACE STANDARDS
 PROCEDURES
1. Workplace Standards are the guidelines that
must be followed when performing electrical
wiring tasks in the workplace, these standards
define the necessary safety procedures and
regulations that must be adhered to in order to
ensure the safety of personnel and equipment.
2. Procedures, on the other hand, are the specific steps that
must be followed in order to complete a task in the most
efficient and effective way possible. Procedures outline the
exact steps that must be taken in order to properly install,
test, and maintain electrical wiring systems. They provide
detailed instructions on the materials, tools, and techniques
that must be used, as well as the steps that must be followed
to properly complete the task.
Safety is of the utmost importance when
it comes to electrical wiring. All work
must be undertaken in accordance with
workplace and industry- standard
procedures.
1.Ensure the electrical circuit is turned off before
beginning any work.
2.Use the correct tools for the job and wear the proper
safety equipment.
3.Follow all manufacturer instruction for the wiring of
the device.
4.When replacing or installing a new wiring system,
check the circuit for proper grounding and insulation.
5.Verify the correct size and gauge for the job.
6. Test the wiring system before and after installation to ensure
proper operation.
7. Label all wiring in a manner that is easy to understand.
8. Use high quality materials when installing wiring systems.
9. Secure all wiring systems with wire ties and other fastening
materials.
10. Avoid overloading circuits.

These procedures will ensure that all electrical wiring is done

safely and correctly.
