Dual Purposed Mechanically-

Powered Rice Grain Thresher Trike

(Capstone)
Chapter 1

INTRODUCTION
Background of the Study
• Machines are costly for farmers
• If not used properly, it will lead to accidents.
• Bikes give many benefits to its riders
• Motivated by the problems of farmers.
• The researchers want to combine the two products
to produce a much better one.
CAN THE PROTOTYPE CONTRIBUTE TO THE
SOLUTION TO THE GENERAL AND SPECIFIC
PROBLEMS OF THE FARMERS OR WILL IT NOT?
Objectives of the Study
• General (Positive and Negative)
1. The product contributed in solving the problems of
farmers in energy consumption, and financial status.
2. The product does not contribute in solving the
problems of farmers in energy consumption, and
financial status.
Objectives of the Study
• Specific (Positive and Negative)
1. The product contributed in solving the specific
problem of farmers like poor health.
2. The product does not contribute in solving the
specific problem of farmers like poor health.
Significance of the Study
• Farmers
1. Good substitute for the threshing machine
2. Convenient
3. Lesser money consumption
4. Great multitasking ability
Significance of the Study
• Dealers
1. Secured that their products are on a better quality.
2. Increase the moral of their business
3. More and more customer will come
Significance of the Study
• Future Researchers
1. Ideas
Significance of the Study
• Townspeople
1. Prices will go down.
2. If a bike-zone park is made, they can use the
prototype to roam the park while helping the
farmers.
3. More opportunity of work will be given.
Time and Place of the Study
• The study is conducted from February 9 2018- March
8 2018 at Samuel Christian College, Navarro, General
Trias, Cavite.
Scope and Limitation of the Study
• Formally started on February 9
• Limited for Navarro farmers
• One month is given to the farmers for health exercise
purposes.
• Any other events, unnecessary acts are not included
to the scope nor to the limitation of the study.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

Agriculture in the Philippines
• Agriculture in the Philippines is developing.
Problems Behind the Statistics
• Farmers bankrupt for this reasons:
1. Machine Loans
2. Weather Disturbances
3. Quota Reflections
Technology in Agriculture
• Proper use of technology can lead to:
1. Higher crop productivity
2. Saved time on the market and on the field
Pedal Thresher
• An agricultural machine
that is being operated
by means of pedaling.
Comparison of Products

Pedal Thresher Traditional Way

• Threshing output:127.5 • Threshing output: 92 kg/hr
kg/hr • None
• ₱608.66 saved
Accidents Due to Automatic Threshing Machines

• According to a study in Punjab University, out of the

total farm accidents in Punjab, 25.8% were creditted
to threshing machines.
• According to Janice A. Windau, in a 6-year span, 34,
350 accidents were reported connected to threshing
machines.
Uses and Benefits of Bikes
• According to Bikes Belong, bikes are:
• Health and Nature friendly.
• For 1 mile pedaled, nearly 1 pound of Carbon Dioxide
is saved.
• Less expensive
• Convenient

Appearance of the Prototype
Appearance of the Prototype
Principles of Operation
1. The operator should pedal the prototype first.
2. The shortened rice grain leaves should be put into
the hopper.
3. Continue to pedal.
Principles of Operation
• Beteen 2-3 steps, these what happen
• Seeds will pass through the tube.
• Seeds will pass through the filter/strainer.
• Once satisfied, the operator can get the rice grain
leaves.
Technical Evaluation
• The parameters that will be evaluated by the
researchers are the required power of the operator
when using the prototype compared to the original
machine, and the safety of the operators while using
the prototype.
Data to be Gathered
• The data to be gathered by the researchers are the
amount of seeds produced in a specific time and the
money spent of farmers when using the prototype all
compared to when using a threshing machine.
Statistical Treatment of Data
• One-way Anova will be used.
• People who will be involved in the data gathering
should be connected or have an interest in farming
(e.g farmers).
• Questionnaires
