Work Requirements
In this subject we will be doing lots of group activities covering the three
main areas of the Performing Arts – Drama, Music and
Dance/Movement. Our first term will be teacher directed activities to
build your skills in these areas, adding a different stimulus each lesson.
Your first graded learning task will be your Fractured Fairytales small
group performance. In Term 4 you will be working collaboratively as a
whole class to create and perform your own 10 minute class lunch time
performance for your teachers and peers. This learning task will also be
graded and on your report. Your workbook should contain a record of
your progress.

 Answer these questions on the sheet provided and glue into your workbook:

1. Do you or have you ever played a musical instrument? If so, what and for how long? Are you still having lessons?

Character

 There will be times when you will act on stage in a scripted play and perform for
an audience in a drama you have created yourself. When this happens, you will
need to form and develop characters that are believable and interesting. To do this,
you need to be able to imagine yourself in someone else’s place and become them
to a certain extent. These characters must not only seem like real people, but they
must also have fully developed personalities which are believable, appropriate and
effective for the particular drama in which they appear. The best way to interpret a
character is to imagine their whole life story before and after the drama, and to try
and invent valid reasons for the way in which they behave. For example, an angry
nurse or doctor might have suffered serious injuries more than once while trying
to help patients, and as a result might now be wary all the time and suspicious of
everyone. Developing these skills is called characterisation.
