Electrochemistry
• It is the branch of physical chemistry which deals with the relationship
between electrical energy and chemical changes taking place in redox reaction.
• The substance whose aqueous solution undergo decomposition into ions when
electric current is passed through them are known as Electrolytes and the
whole process is known as Electrolysis.
• Eg: Strong acid – Hcl, H2so4, HNo3, HBr
Strong base – NaOH, KoH, Ca[OH]2, Mg(OH)2, Ca(OH)2
Weak acid – CH3CooH, H2Co3, H2SO3
Weak base- NH4OH
Non electrolytes examples: Alcohol, glycerine, cane sugar.
Conductors & Insulators
• Substances which does not conduct electricity are called conductors,
they allow the passage of current. Eg- Copper, Iron, Aluminium.
• Substances which does not allow passage of electric current are
known as insulators. Eg- Plastic, Rubber.
