 Definition of mental health
Mental health translated from mental hygiene or mental Health. The definitions put
forward by experts are colored their respective expertise. According to the World
Health Organization in Winkel (1991) it is stated : Health is a state of complete
physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of a particular
disease or weakness. This definition provides a broad picture of being healthy, covering
various aspects so that it is expected to be able to realize well-being. Can utilize all the
potential and talents that exist as much as possible and bring to happiness together and
achieve harmony of soul in life.
According to expert mental health is :
 According to Dr. Jalaluddin in his book “psychology of Religion “ that : “Mental
health is inner condition that is always in a calm, safe and peaceful state, and
efforts to find inner peace can be done, among others, through self adjusment in
resignation (complete surrender to God )”.
 According to the understanding of medical science, mental health is a condition
that allows for optimal physical, intellectual and emotional development of a
person and that development goes hand in hand with the individual’s
circumstances.
 Zakiah Darojat, someone who avoids the symptoms of disorder and mental ilness,
can adapt, can make the most of all existing potential and talents and bring
happiness together and achieve harmony of soul in life.
 Allport, a healthy human is a human who reaches maturity.
 Maslow, healthy humans are humans who are able to actualize themselves and
achieve happiness.
Characteristics of Mental Health
 Having a positive attitude towards him self.
 Self actualization (an instinctive need for humans to do what the best he can)
 Able to carry out integration with existing psychic function
 Able to beautonomous towards oneself (independent)
 Have an objective perception of the existing reality
 Able to harmonize enviromental conditions with oneself
 Have an accurate perception of reality,including seeing reality as it is
 Not denying the bad things that happened in his past and present
 Have mastery over situations , including having self
 Mental Health Disorders
For people with mental disorders/psychoneurosis, they still live in reality, they still live in nature in
general, they still feel the real difficulties, they cannot or are not able to adjust themselves to the
environment and they are not yet strong or not strong in their conscience. That is actually what he is
looking for away out to escape from disappointment or suffering into psychoneurosis, explained several
kinds of mental disorders , namely :
 Histeria

Symptoms associated with the physical include :


a. Paralyzed Hysteria
b. Histeria cramps
c. Hysteria seizures
d. Mutism
 Psychosomatism

The classic psychosomatism symptom patterns include the following:


a. Stomach ulcer, a wound in the stomach
b. Anorexia nervosa, an eating disorder
Symptoms related to mental, among others :
a. Amnesia memory

b. Fugrue wandered around unconsciously

c. Multiple personality

d. Sociopathic personality

e. Depersonalization

f. Somnabulism, doing something in a state of sleep


 Psychasthenia

 Neurasthenia

 Tiks (tics)

 Sexual disorders

the sexual disorders include:


a. Autoeroticism (self-excitation of the genitals)

b. Homosexual or lesbian (associated between the same sex)

c. Sadism (natural sex between a man and a woman, but which concerned only feels sexual
satisfaction if it can cause it physical or psychological pain of a loved one)
d. Fatishima (sexual gratification caused by seeing or touched by goods or objects of the types,
for example underwear
e. Pedophilia (an adult who wants to have sex with a child, without regardless of
gender
f. Transvetitis (sexual gratification obtained by dressing and impersonating the other
gender)
g. Exhibitionism (sexual arousal obtained by dressing and impersonating the other
gender.

i. Masochim ( enjoying sexual gratification while experiencing self pain

 the relationship between religion and mental health
  Man and religion

The psychology of religion is one of the proofs that psichologists pay special
attention to the role of religion in human life and psychology. Even the most extreme
opinion on this matters still shows how religion has been assessed part of human
personal life which is closely related to psychological symptoms, in some of his books
sigmund freud is known. Religion according to fead appears in human behaviour as a
symbol of hatred to wards fathers which is reflected in theform of fear of God.
 Religion and mental health

Religion seems to be inseparable from human life, Human’s denial of religion may
be due to certain factors, both caused by their on personality and environment
CONCLUSION
 A person is said to have a healthy mentality, if he avoids the symptoms of mental
illness and takes advantage of his potential to harmonize the functions of the soul
within himself. People who are not mentally healthy. An unhealthy group is a
person whose peace of mind is disturbed. The existence of this mental abnormality
is usually caused by an individual's inability to face the realities of life, so that
mental conflicts arise in him. General symptoms of mental illness
 Harmony between the functions of the soul and actions can be achieved, among
others, by carrying out religious teachings and trying to apply social, legal and
moral norms. Thus will create peace of mind that causes happiness to arise in him.
This definition shows that the functions of the soul such as thoughts, feelings,
attitudes, views and beliefs, must support each other and work together so as to
create a harmonious life, which keeps people from being indecisive and indecisive.
