What is sewage ?

► DRAINAGE TOILETS AND URINALS,

► DRAINAGE FROM MEDICAL PREMISES,

► DRAINAGE FROM SPACES CONTAINING LIVING ANIMALS,

► OTHER WASTE WATERS WHEN MIXED WITH THE DRAINAGES

Which ships are falling under the scope of the
revised Annex IV ?

► NEW SHIPS :

 400 GT AND ABOVE AND

 LESS THAN 400 GT CARRYING MORE THAN 15 PERSONS, AS FROM


27 SEPTEMBER 2003.

► EXISTING SHIPS :

 400 GT AND ABOVE AND

 LESS THAN 400 GT CARRYING MORE THAN 15 PERSONS, AS FROM

Special Areas for MARPOL Annex IV

► Baltic Sea

 Date of Entry Into Force 2013, Jan.1


► Currently, the Baltic Sea area is the only Special Area under Annex IV. In
accordance with resolution MEPC.275(69), the discharge requirements for
Special Areas in regulation 11.3 of MARPOL Annex IV for the Baltic Sea
Special Area shall take effect:
► on 1 June 2019, for new passenger ships[1];

► on 1 June 2021, for existing passenger ships[1] other than those specified in .3;
and
► on 1 June 2023, for existing passenger ships en route directly to or from a port
located outside the special area and to or from a port located east of longitude
28˚10' E within the special area that do not make any other port calls within the
special area.

Special Areas for MARPOL Annex IV

Regulation 1 paragraph 10

10  A passenger ship means a ship which carries


more than twelve passengers.

For the application of regulation 11.3 (Special


Areas) a new passenger ship is a passenger ship:
.1  for which the building contract is placed, or in
the absence of a building contract, the keel of which
is laid, or which is in a similar stage of construction,
on or after 1 June 2019; or
.2  the delivery of which is on or after 1 June 2021.

An existing passenger ship is a passenger ship


which is not a new passenger ship.

► A SHIP SHALL BE EQUIPED WITH ONE OF THOSE SYSTEMS :

 SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT

 SEWAGE COMMINUTING AND DISINFECTING SYSTEM

 HOLDING TANK

► AND A STANDARD DISCHARGE CONNECTION

Where may sewage be discharged ?

► EFFLUENT FROM SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT :

 EVERYWHERE

► COMMINUTED AND DISINFECTED SEWAGE :

 NOT LESS THAN 3 MILES FROM NEAREST LAND

► UNTREATED SEWAGE :

 NOT LESS THAN 12 MILES FROM NEAREST LAND, EN ROUTE,


SUBJECT TO RATE OF DISCHARGE APPROVAL
