What is energy?

 Energy is the ability to do work ·

 Energy  is the quantitative property that must be transferred to an object in
order to perform work on, or to heat, the object.
 Energy is a conserved. Its means energy can neither be created not distroyed .
 Heat · Light · Motion · Electrical · Chemical · Gravitational etc are all different form
of energy.
Renewable and non-renewable resources
of energy
 A renewable resource, also known as a flow resource, can be used repeatedly
and does not run out because it is naturally replaced. A renewable resource,
essentially, has an endless supply.
 A nonrenewable resource is a natural substance that is not replenished with
the speed at which it is consumed. It is a finite resource.
Renewable resources non-renewable sources

Solar Energy Oil

Soil Steel
Trees Aluminum
Grass Coal
Groundwater Phosphates
Forms of the energy
Sources of energy

 Energy resources are:
 crude oil,
 Coal ,
 Natural gas
 Nuclear  power,
 biomass,
 solar,
 wind,
How do fuels release energy
 Chemical fuels are substances that release energy by reacting with
substances around them,
 Fuels  like methane (CH4) burn in the presence of oxygen to produce carbon
dioxide and water. This process of combustion releases energy.
Fossil fuels
 Fossil fuels are made from dead remains of plants and animals, called fossils
(decomposing plants and animals).
 These fuels are found in the Earth's crust and contain carbon and hydrogen, which can
be burned for energy.
 Examples of fossil fuels
 Coal
 Petroleum
 Natural gas ,
 Oil
Burning of fossil fuels

 Coal and oil release sulfur dioxide gas when they burn, which causes breathing
problems for living creatures and contributes to acid rain.
  Fossil fuels release carbon dioxide when they burn, which adds to the greenhouse
effect and increases global warming .
 When fossil fuels are burned, they release nitrogen oxides into the atmosphere, which
contribute to the formation of smog and acid rain.
 Major sources of nitrogen oxide emissions include: Cars and trucks. Coal-fired power
plants.
 A coal-fired power station or coal power plant is a thermal power station which burns
coal to generate electricity.
Coal-fired power plants.
