Sunburst Park

The new Sunburst Park gives Ilonggo's a new urban green
space and community center where they can relax and take in
the old-world ambiance of the surrounding heritage buildings
and the beauty of the nearby Iloilo River.
Sunburst came from the name of the United States Army 40th
Infantry “Sunburst” Division that helped liberate Panay from
the Japanese colonizers. 
The demolition of the old grandstand, the construction of the
new Sunburst Park, and the building of the replacement Iloilo
Dinagyang Grandstand were all done in just one year.
The Department of Tourism Region VI Director Atty. Helen J.
Catalbas said Sunburst Park is not just a landmark but a living
witness to the struggles and victory of the Ilonggos from the
colonizers. She added, “history is as important as the future.
We learn from the mistakes of the past so we can make the
future better”. (Robles, R. et. Al 2019)
Strengths and Weaknesses of Sunburst Park Iloilo
STRENGHTS
 For public and private usage – as we know,
Iloilo City is one of the famous city in Panay and
because of it, Dinagyang Festival is one of a
public festivals held in here. Sunburst Park can  Travel distance between parks – travel
accommodate a lot of people and it can be a
place where the performers can perform as
well as it can be an event center because of its
spaciousness.
 Settings – Sunburst park is one of the great
place to film a movie, theater, or concert hall
because the space is too large that it can
accommodate a lot of actors and actresses,
guest, as well as supporters.
WEAKNESSES
 Maintenance – maintaining a park is one of the
hardest work to do. You must do anything for it
to make the people feels comfortable.
distance had a limiting effect on park visits.
 Natural disasters issues - natural disasters are
becoming more frequent and more severe as
the climate crisis accelerates, and also because
communities continue to develop areas
vulnerable to climate-driven hazards. 
 Recommendations:
Maintenance - hire a park maintenance workers .They plant and maintain flowers
and shrubs, apply pesticides and fertilizers, clean park facilities, and ensure park
equipment remains in good working condition.
- Putting garbage bins to avoid trash, and improve the social
environment by encouraging people not to litter.
Travel distance between parks – because Sunburst Park is located in an urban area,
distance can be an issue if you live far from the park. As a result, if you want to visit
this park, you must drive all the way here.
Natural disasters issue – The main solution is hazard planning, which the primary
purpose of identifying, assessing, and reducing the long-term risk to life and
property from hazard events.
