Need for Thinking Beyond Scientific Documentation:-

 Packing the important results and channeling to the extension

system to ensure their wider applications towards impacting
livelihoods???

 Proper communications to various stakeholders & clients

2.3. Years Research Strategy (12 programs)

 Identified Strategic Interventions
 Short-term (1st five years)
 Medium-term (2nd five years)
 Long-term (3rd five years)

 About 54 mega projects have been generated from

the strategy documents (44 projects under implementation
currently)

 Required refinements should focus on medium & long-

term interventions in the coming 8-9 years

 Any emerging issues should also be accounted for by

the respective programs

Final Remark
 Important review stage where final technical decision will be made
 Minutes should be strictly captured, summarized and submitted
to the program leaders within a week after the review
(Rapporteurs)
 All presentation slides should be submitted to the program
leaders immediately
Full write-ups of new activities should be submitted to the program
leaders right during the review – other wise will not be
considered for budgeting

24
Doc ID

Final Remark…
Proper time management (chairpersons & presenters)

 Key findings of completed activities (brief summary/table)

 Brief highlights on progresses of on-going activities

 Summarized details of new activities – alignment with strategic

issues, gap of knowledge (relevance), possibility to implement with

available capacity (technical feasibility), etc
 Tangible reasons - for modified, re-initiated, extended, suspended

and terminated activities if any

25
Doc ID

Final Remark…
 Support to emerging centers to ensure their proper
integration into the system

 Wolkite
 Abobo
 Ambo (Ginchi sub-center)
 Debre-Markos

 Student Thesis Research Works – currently about 35 livestock

researchers on long-term training- most of them on thesis
research work

 More than 1 Million Birr being invested on student thesis research

works in 2014 EC alone – allocated by the concerned programs
 Thesis research activities should be part of research directories of
the concerned programs, properly monitored, and reported
accordingly including in the completed research forum
26
Doc ID

Final Remark…
Among points of general discussion:

 Balance of planned activities (on-station vs on-farm/demonstration,

pre-scaling up; source technology multiplication)

 Reporting – quality and timeliness (Including financial for non-EIAR

centers)
 Full write-ups of completed activities – quality and timeliness

 Packing & communication of applicable research results for

development use
 etc
