Interaction Among Animals
Interaction is an active relationship among living things that are dependent
upon each other
Interaction between same species is known as intraspecies
Interaction between different species is known as interspecies
Both interactions may occur either in the form of cooperation or competition
Example of interactions among animals :
Intraspecies :
Bees work together to build their nest (cooperation)
Chicks compete for food (competition)
Interspecies :
Antelopes have a good sense of hearing and smell. Baboons have a very good
sense of sight. They work together to detect predators (cooperation)
Eagles and snakes compete for limited food (competition)
Animals Living in Groups
Animals that live in groups and search for food together in the same habitat
Examples : bees, termites, storks, fish, goat, swallows, lions, deers
Advantages : they work together to build nest, find food, maintain safety, protect
their young and control their territory
Disadvantages : Easily infected by an outbreak of diseases, easily detected by
predators ( weak one difficult to save themselves)
Animals Living in Solitary
Animals that live without other members of their species
Do anything alone
Have enough space to rest and look for food in their habitat
Examples : woodpeckers, tapirs, squirrels, spiders, hornbills, tigers, pythons
Advantages : can overcome the problem of limited food resources, reduce the competition in
finding mates
Disadvantages : difficult to defend themselves from enemies, difficult finding partners during
mating season
