BARRIERS TO SMOKING

CESSATION AMONG WOMEN

IN MARGINALIZED
COMMUNITY
BACKGROUND OF THE
STUDY
 In marginalized communities, women face unique
barriers to smoking cessation. Socioeconomic factors
such as low income and limited access to healthcare
contribute to limited resources and support for quitting.
Cultural norms, stress and social pressures may also
discourage women from seeking help or prioritizing
their own health. Additionally, the prevalence of stress,
mental health challenges, and exposure to tobacco
advertising further complicate smoking cessation efforts
among women in marginalized communities.
STATEMENT OF THE
PROBLEM
 This study aims to determine the barriers to smoking
cessation among women in marginalized communities.
Specifically, it sought answers to the following questions.

1. What are the reasons for attempting to quit smoking?

2. What factors have the respondents encountered that are
blocking their way to becoming smoke-free?
CHAPTER 2
LITERATURE REVIEW
 Several barriers to smoking cessation were found as concerns for
smokers in marginalized communities. Most smokers lack knowledge
and understanding of the negative effects of combustible smoking,
and it is difficult to quit in an environment where smoking is accepted
behavior. Additionally, craving for the habit of smoking is a barrier,
as it is too strong to resist. Even real-life experiences of how
combustible smoking causes serious health problems fail to convince
them to quit (Hameed et al. 2021).
CHAPTER 3
RESEARCH METHODS
Design
oThe study utilizes the use of case study design since the researchers
are going to investigate a particular individual or group of people
that aims to comprehend the difficulty of real-life situations and the
various factors that affect them (McCombes, 2023).
Setting
 The research was conducted at Brgy. Manlabay and Marangan,
Dumingag, ZDS.

CHAPTER 5
DISCUSSION
DICUSSION
 This study explores the challenges and strategies for smoking cessation among rural
women. It highlights the higher prevalence of smoking among rural women compared
to urban women, leading to increased health risks. Limited access to smoking
cessation resources further hinders their ability to quit smoking. The study employed
face-to-face interviews with standardized questionnaires to gather comprehensive data.
The interviews revealed that many women face common obstacles such as cravings
and withdrawal symptoms, indicating a need for targeted interventions and support
strategies to address these challenges effectively.
