THE TRANSFORMATION
THE WEB 2.0 APPROACH
THE SITUATION
Platform with an on-going transformation but with a mix of UI
New apps in Web 2.0 since OV4.1- with innovative Web 2.0 L&F ( Responsive design etc.)
Web /Web client Running on Web Browser etc..
Opportunity for New Apps : Dashboard, Analytics
Web 2.0 techniques New Workflows , device Picker, Tables etc..

THE TRANSFORMATION
DILEMMA & APPROACH
PERFECT TRANSITION WITH TOTAL TRANSITION WITH 100% FEATURES PARITY
- Reality check:
- Not possible over the course of one single Release- Transition stretched over the course of n releases
- Will still require JNLP/Java for the non Web 2.0 applications or totally migrated apps
- Will prevent any progress on back-end optimization and performances optimization
APPROACH/SOLUTION RETAINED
- No more Java/JNLP launch- Web interface is only Client interface W/ Web Browser-HTML5
- Invest/ Focus on the most critical features and reinvent them
- Closing one shot a Competitive Gap -> no partial transition etc..
- Allow us to pursue back-end optimization, performances and ultimately new server packaging in parallel
- Catch up later on missing /left over features based on criticality
- Cons
- Not total 100% full transition , there is some Gaps on some areas (Chassis Topology tabs, Statistics)
- Opportunity to reinvent or renew apps (Plain Statistics evolving to Performances monitoring/SLA )

VMM 2.0- SUMMARY
VMM 2.0 WORKFLOWS
• Add hypervisor system(s) – Select
type, define connection URL,
Instance Name (must match
controller name), and
administrator credentials.
• Use VM Locator to locate (and
display – with possible filtering)
both hypervisor hosts and VMs as
‘seen’ on the network – switch
and port connections. This
feature is separate from the
‘normal’ locator function.
• VM Devices List will display a list
of VMs as obtained from the
hypervisor system(s)
PROVISIONING
• Definition of bindings between VM and UNP for network connectivity
MOVEMENT
• Simplifying vm motion to new switch
Security & QoS parameters, VLAN configuration
Add, migrate, remove
VMM 2.0 – HYPERVISOR AGNOSTIC & OPTIMIZED UI VMM 2.0 – WITHOUT ANY HYPERVIZOR LIMITATIONS
• Supporting all leading Enterprise virtualization platforms • Mix and match between all Hypervisor Brands
• Hyper-V Support – Fastest-growing hypervisor platform • No Limitations in number of HyperVisors attachment
• VM Locator with Locator style UI • Up to 5000 Vm max per OV2500 System

RESOURCE MANAGER
RESOURCE MANAGER
• Used to manage switch resources – that is
configuration files and operational images.
• Backup/Restore – select switch(es) and
file(s) to backup to OV, or restore from OV
to selected switch(es). The operator can
also compare files from different backups
and switches.
• Upgrade Image – Import, and select switch
images to upload (upgrade) selected
switches.
• Inventory delivers a list of the known
switches – product type, serial number,
and OS version.
• Auto Configuration – Is used to define
switch Remote-Configuration-Load
parameters and files.
• Trap Definition – Used to set the trap severity. This severity is then used in the trap responder definition. (ie for traps of severity x, perform y)
• Trap Responder – Used to configure actions based on the source IP address and trap severity. Actions can include: starting an application on OV, generating email, or forwarding a trap to another device.
• Trap Configuration:
Select devices (switches) – via list or topology map
Enable traps)
Select Trap types.
• The Notifications Home – allows operator to view traps based map selections and by defined severity.
R421R01 accessible as Paid Upgrade for all Customers prior and including R357
Opportunity to couple launch with Migration Programs focusing on R357 installed base
