Comparatives are used to show
the difference between two objects.
RULE 1
1. If an adjective has one syllable we add the ending
to the adjective: - ER than

1. Tall :Taller than

2. If a one syllable adjective ends with
a Consonant + a vowel + a consonant you must double
the last consonant and then add:
- ER than

2. BIG : BIGGER than

3. If an adjective ends with a “Y”, remove the “Y” and we add:
- IER than

add the word MORE before the adjective and THAN after it.

SUPERLATIVES
Superlatives are used to show the difference
between three or more objects.
RULE 1
1. If an adjective has one syllable we add before and
after to the adjective:
The - est

1. Tall :The Tallest

The woman is the tallest person.


RULE 2
2. If a one syllable adjective ends with
a Consonant + a vowel + a consonant you must double
the last consonant and then add:
