COMPARISON OF SUPERIORITY OF ADJECTIVES

Comparative Superlative
 ONE syllable adjectives: + -er + -est

tall taller than The tallest


     
one syllable with the spelling consonant + single vowel + consonant: double the
final consonant:
fat fatter than The fattest
big bigger than The biggest
sad sadder than The saddest

 TWO syllables adjectives: + -er + -est
ending in -y, -ly,-ow,-le,-er
happy happier than The happiest
yellow yellower than The yellowest
simple simpler than The simplest
tender tenderer than The tenderest
All the other two-syllable
adjectives form the comparative
and superlative with MORE and
MOST

Comparisons of INFERIORITY
