KITCHEN PLANNING

KITCHEN :-
• The process of planning your kitchen interiors involves more than just
picking the colour of the walls, cabinets or appliances you need
everyday.
• It’s important you know how much space needs to be left between two
kitchen counter rows or the correct height for a breakfast bar. 
•  It is also important to decide on the essential features and storage
solutions that need to be incorporated into a kitchen’s interior design
based on who is using it
• Kitchen in the recent decades plays a multifaceted roles.
• It is a place where majority of living and interacting takes place ,and it id
designed with space and equipment for variety of activities.
• A great room is an area that comprises formerly separate spaces kitchen
dining and family room .

• Area for preparation of snacks and quick meals, larger family meals , formal
meals and meals for event crowds .
• A quick eating bar or island or some other informal dining with access to

DINING :-
• It is a space for events or parties where participating in cooking and
interaction of the guests is part of the fun.
• Space for home office duties: taking care of family.
• Casual ,comfortable seating for conversation , music and video /television
and entertainment .
• Direct access to mudroom , laundry room and outside service area.
FEATURES AND TRENDS FOR KITCHEN AND GREAT
ROOMS:-
• With the advent of multiple users , kitchen may feature duplicate
workstations, appliances and fixtures , such as two ovens , two
microwaves ,two refrigerators. Two sing and two dishwashers , these may or
may not be located next to each other ,more likely they are not ,except for
double ovens
• Multiple islands ,one for food preparation and one for serving.

• Drawers:- that contain warming ovens and refrigerator drawer.
• cabinets that are architecturally beautiful , with various heights ,mouldings
and pieces that look like furniture rather than cabinets.
• Walk in pantry and cabinetry with special features such as rolling shelves and
pull out panels , bins and work surfaces
• Universal design elements ,such as surfaces that are safe to walk on,good
lighting to decrease accidents ,electricity located away from plumbing and
water ,water temperature regulating devices and safe cook tops.
• Appliance features are now so numerous that research and comparison is a
must
• Special placement may be designed for cabinetry and appliances to
accommodate the needs of wheelchairs bounds or ambulatory impaired .
• Safe and empowered good planning for childrens and adolescents who will
use the kitchen when home alone .
• More than one working triangle and various working zones to meet the need
of multiple users.
• A separate room or open as an addition to the kitchen ,it contains cabinetry to
hold larger serving dishes and extra tableware , and it often houses an extra
sink , dishwasher and refrigerator.
ZONES AND WORKING
• While designing a kitchen it is important to design the kitchen into different
zones and working triangle.
• In basic working triangle ,three basic zones are considered :-
1) the refrigerator zone
2) the cooking zone (range and ovens )
3) the sink or clean up zone
• Total walking distance among these three areas should not be fewer than 12 feet
and not more than 26 feet.
• If multiple cooks work together ,two basic work triangles may be planned .
• Kitchen can also have or include the followings :-
• 1) additional food storage zone
• 2) various specialized food preparation zone
• 3) a second cook zone or quick cook zone
• 4) a second clean up or quick cooking zone
• 5) tableware storage zone(s)
• 6) serving and service storage zone
• 7) cleaning supplies storage zone
• The zones should be planned by taking consideration and in the convienience
of the user / family member who cook and should be laid out logically
according to the individual needs.
• Kitchen planning is made in accordance to the
• 1) appliance to purchase
• 2) choosing the appliances from the various options and styles available
• 3) cabinet dimensions to accommodate the appliance accurately .
LAUNDRY AREA
• Cabinets should contain shelves high enough for laundry
detergents ,whiteners , softeners ,and other frequently used products and
items.
• Counter space for folding clothes and a closet or rods for hanging
