Transport System in Organisms

Organisms

Unicellular Multicellular

Organisms made up of only one cell Organisms made up of many cells

Amoeba Euglen Parameciu Plant Animals

a m s
What is
diffusion???

The net movement of particles (molecules)

from place of higher concentration to that
of lower concentration is called diffusion.
What is
osmosis???

The net movement of particles (molecules) from the

place of higher concentration to that of lower
concentration passing through a partially permeable
membrane is called osmosis.
How are
diffusion and osmosis
different???

Diffusion can occur in any

substance.
Osmosis can only occur in
water.
Diffusion do not need partially permeable
membrane.

Osmosis need partially permeable

membrane.

Solute and Solvent molecules need to

move.

Solvent molecules need to

move.
Two Types of
Transport System in
Organisms are -

Transport System in Plants

Transport System in Human

Transport System in Plants

1. Roots (active
transport)
2. Vascular Bundle (passive
transport)
Vascular
Xylem Phloem
Bundle
Xylem

Carries water from roots to other parts of the

plants.
Made up of dead
cells
Has no
nucleus
Has thick & strong wall
Phloem

Carries food from the leaves to other parts of the

plants.
Made up of living cells
Has no
nucleus
Has tiny porous walls between
cells

Transport System in Human

1. The Blood Circulatory

System
(a)
Heart
(b) Blood
(c) Blood
Vessels
Is a muscular pump. Heart Keeps the blood circulate
continuously in the body.
Structure of the heart
Has tissue and fluid tissue. Blood
Contains RBC, WBC, platelets
& plasma.

RBC - red blood cells

WBC - white blood
Red Blood Cell
(RBC)

Carries oxygen to all parts of the

body.
Has no
nucleus.
White Blood Cell
(WBC)

Fight against foreign diseases to protect our

body.
Has
nucleus.
Platelets

Stop bleeding & clots the

blood.
Has
nucleus.
Plasma

Transport waste materials that is produced by body cell

(e.g. carbon dioxide - CO2), hormones and nutrients
from
the small intestine to the whole body.
Blood
Vessels

Contains arteries, capillaries and veins
