CONDOR

It represented the Jananpacha, the land above, of the sky and of the future.
The distance between their outstretched wingtips (about 3.3 meters)
represents the largest wingspan of a land bird. They are monogamous and
both parents incubate the egg. Their young stay with their parents for up to
2 years before going out into the world on their own. In certain seasons of
the year (in October in Peru), they fly from the tops of the Andes to the
Pacific coast to ingest carrion. of dead sea lions. It belongs to the only

by National Law No. 22,421 for the
Conservation of Wildlife, the main
threat affecting the Andean condor
is the consumption of toxic baits, an
illegal practice used to control
predatory species.
Where does the Andean condor live in our
country?
In our country it is found
along the Andes Mountains,
in provinces such as
Catamarca, Jujuy, Tucumán,
Salta, Tierra del Fuego and
in the central zone of the
country. Esta foto de Autor desconocido está bajo licencia CC BY-SA-NC
What role does the Andean condor play in
Peru?
It feeds on carrion, which is why it plays
an invaluable role in ecosystems. By
consuming dead animals, you avoid the
proliferation of bacteria that can cause
diseases in humans. In addition, it helps
to control the population of other
scavenger species and thus contributes to
maintaining the balance of the
ecosystem.
