Andean condor is the largest flying bird Andean condor was described
in the world by combined measurement by Swedish scientist
of weight and wingspan. It has a Carl Linnaeus in 1758
maximum wingspan of 3.3 m (10 ft 10 in)
and weight of 15 kg (33 lb). It is generally
considered as the largest bird of prey in
the world. Found in the Andes mountains
and adjacent Pacific coasts of western
South America
The Only Predator :

The only predator that the

Andean Condor will have is
man.
Very Low Reproduction Rate :
+ This has a very low reproduction rate, since
they usually lay 1 egg every 2 years. They are
monogamous animals, that is, they only have
one partner, but if one of the two dies, the other
will look for a new partner.
+Their reproduction cycle begins with
courtship towards the female followed by
mating, incubation and the raising of
the chick for 2 or 3 years
They Are Scavenger Animals :
They are scavenger animals, they do not dive as
soon as they find the carrion, but they stay
flying on top of it or they are located
somewhere where they can see clearly. They can
last two days to get close, they start feeding on
the softest points of the corpse, such as the eyes,
tongue, etc. and dung
They can consume 5 kg of meat in a day and
can also fast for up to 5 days
Condor Distribution :

The Andean condor is found in

South America in the Andes and the
Santa Marta Mountains
In the north, its range begins in
Venezuela and Colombia, where it is
extremely rare, then continues
south along the Andes in Ecuador,
Peru, and Chile, through Bolivia
and western Argentina to the fire
land
Condor Habit:

It’s habitat is mainly composed of open

grasslands and alpine areas up to 5,000 m
(16,000 ft) in elevation.
It prefers relatively open, non- forested areas
which allow it to spot carrion from the air, such
as the páramo or rocky, mountainous areas in
general
In southern Patagonia, meadows are important
for Andean condors as
this habitat is likely to have
herbivores present
