Preface

 Room cleaning or servicing the room does not refer to


bed making activities only but also cleaning the room,
washroom and shower area.
 The BED is the ‘Diva’ of the room as normally it is the
first area that the guests go to when they enter their
room.
 Cleaning the room must start from top to bottom (ceiling
first then to the floor) then only the bed – Don’t make up
the bed as the dust would rest on the finished bed when
you clean the floor.
 When the bed is done, the next area is the
toilet/washroom.
Servicing the Guestroom

1. Knock the Door and introduce your self


-‘Housekeeping’ – Do it 3 times – when you are sure
no one is inside the room then only you may enter
using your master key.
2. Open wide the door and stop the door with door
stopper – the door must remain open when you are
doing your job.
3. Block the entrance with your cart/trolley
4. Switch on all lights and tv – to ensure they are
working

5. Open all window to air the room.


6. Wipe the spider web if any
7. Remove all bed sheets, blankets and put them
inside the trolley
8. Bring in the fresh napery
9. Sweep the floor / vacum the carpet if it is too dirty /
mop the floor
10. Do the bed making using the fresh napery
11. Clean the toilet/washroom

12. Bring out all used towels and put them inside the
trolley
13. Flush the toilet (if necessary) and squeeze the
chemical inside the toilet bowl (if it is needed) and
leave for a while
14. Clean the shower area – pick up the hairs, lint or any
leftover on the floor trap as these things would clog
the drain
15. Wipe the floor, wall and bath tub as well to remove the
soap scum.

16. Spray with water and dry it– use a dedicated drying
towel to dry those area if necessary (it is important
to ensure this area is dried and looked dried by the
guests).
17. Brush the toilet bowl and flush
18. Dry the toilet bowl area with the dedicated drying
towel – this area must dry like the shower area
19. Put the fresh towel
20. Remove all garbage plastics / garbage from the
dustbins

16. Put new garbage plastics


17. Replace the amenities (e.g. coffee set/ fresh cups/
glasses/ spoons/ tissues/ body shampoo etc)
18. Close the window
19. Close the door and leave
20. Update your report

and creamer, glass and teaspoons
Dustbins – make sure that the is no
rubbish inside the bins before you leave
the room

 The bed is the main attraction in a guestroom – is


very important to make sure this area is well
cleaned and maintained.

 From the research, we know that the first thing


the guests would do is to try the bed, either lying
or simply sitting on the bed

 What you need to have:


– 2/3 white bed sheets
– 1 blanket
– 1 bed spread / bed runner
– 2 pillow cases

1. Remove all the sheets

2. Put on the 1st bed sheet on the bed and tuck

3. Put on the 2nd bed sheet

4. Put on the blanket – make sure you don’t cover


the whole surface, approximately 2 inches away
from the edge of the bed

5. Fold the 2nd bed sheet on to the blanket


(fold the 2 inches first)
6. Fold the blanket together with the 2nd bed
sheet, approximately 1 feet away from the
edge of the bed (head board side)

8. You may use 3rd bed sheet to cover the upper part of
the blanket (the one that is exposed to the guest) – to
make the bed even more classy and comfy to the
guest.

9. Place the pillow at the head of the bed

10. Place the bed spread onto the mattress and the
pillow together

11. Make sure it is neat and tidy

Cleaning the Washroom

1. Collect all rubbish / garbage from the dustbins

2. Check all facets for faults

3. Squeeze chemical inside the toilet bowl and leave for a


while

4. Wash and clean the shower area / bath tub first

5. Firstly, remove any hairs, lint or any left overs in the


bath tub or at the shower area

6. Wipe or brush gently the floor and wall / bath tub along
with special chemical

7. Use water and wipe it dry

8. Wipe the shower pipes and showe head with chemical


and wipe it dry

9. Brush the toilet bowl – use chemical and later use


germicide on the outer part to kill bacteria – wipe it dry

10. Wipe the mirror with special chemical and wipe it dry

11. Wipe the sink with multi purpose chemical and wipe it
dry

12. Clean the ventilation fan – if any

13. Clean the floor with germicide and wipe it dry

14. Replace the guest amenities

15. Facial tissue and toilet tissues must be replaced if it is


less than ¼ .

Turndown the bed:
1. Enter the room, empty dustbin & ashtrays.
2. Remove the bedcover, fold it and place in
the luggage rack drawer.
3. Remove pillow from luggage rack and place
it on the head of the bed.
4. Make 90 angles with the second sheet, quilt
and third sheet.
Turndown the bed:
5. Spread the foot mat on the side of the bed.
[The side where the corner is made] and put
slipper on top of foot mat.
6. Always give turndown from the telephone
side or inner side of the bed - For double
occupancy, both corner to be made.
7. Place turndown amenities e.g: Flower,
Chocolate etc.)

8. Place the Breakfast menu knob on the fold
and put on the bedside lamp.
9. Straighten or tidy anything that is out of order
10. Remove any room service tray, dishes.
11. Empty the trash cans and replace the
wastebasket liners.
12. Do a quick vacuum if required.
Turndown the bed:
13. Tidy the bathroom where you neatly fold used
towels.
14. Wipe the vanity area if required.
15. Create a pleasant atmosphere where you
turn on the bedside lamps, close the drapes
and draw the curtains so that there is no light
coming from the corners or centre.
Turndown the bed:
16. Set the A/C temperature to what was set by
the guest
17. Double check everything, lock the room and
leave the guest room.
