The skeletal system forms the framework of the body and provides support and protection for softer organs and tissues.
The skeletal system, consisting of the bones of the skeleton, cartilages or gristles and ligaments, protects body parts. For
example, the skull forms a protective encasement for the brain, as does the rib cage for the heart and lungs. The skeleton,
as a whole, serves as a place of attachment for the skeletal muscles. Joints are held together by strong bands called
ligaments. The surface of the bones at joints is protected by cartilage, or gristle, which reduces friction as they rub
together. In addition, red bone marrow produces blood cells.

1. The skeletal system forms the framework of the body and provides support and protection for cartilages
and ligaments.

a) TRUE b) FALSE c) NOT GIVEN

2. The musculoskeletal system consists of bones, cartilages and ligaments.

Thanks to the reproductive system, human life is carried to future generations. Continuity of the species is the function of
both the male and female reproductive systems. Sexual reproduction occurs when two cells, known as gametes (one from
a female, the other a male) fuse together during fertilization. The resulting cell is called a zygote. The functions of the
male reproductive system are to produce sperm cells, secrete androgens, and transfer sperm cells to the reproductive
system of the female. Features of the male reproductive system include primary and secondary sex organs and secondary
sex characteristics. The primary sex organs in the female are the ovaries. These secrete the hormone progesterone and
estrogen and produce the female sex cells, the ova. Once a month, the ovum is produced. After its release from the ovary
it is actively guided into the uterine tube which lies folded on the side of the uterus. It may be fertilized by a spermatozoon
in the uterine tube.

b) produces male sex cells, secretes androgens, and transports the male sex cell to the female reproductive
system.
c) produces sperm cells, secretes glucagon, and transfers sperm cells to the reproductive system of the female

4. The primary female sex organs, i.e. ovaries:

a) secrete progesterone and testosterone and produce the female sex cells, the ova.
