WHAT ARE NEWTON’S THREE LAWS OF
MOTION ?
Newton's laws of motion are three physical laws that, together, laid the foundation for classical
mechanics. They describe the relationship between a body and the forces acting upon it, and its
motion in response to those forces. first published in 1687. Newton used them to explain and
investigate the motion of many physical objects and systems
NEWTON’S FIRST LAW OF MOTION

Newton's First Law states that an object will remain at rest or in uniform motion in a straight line
unless acted upon by an external force. It may be seen as a statement about inertia, that objects
will remain in their state of motion unless a force acts to change the motion. For example if you
shot a bullet in a vacuum where there is no gravity or air friction to act upon will continue moving
at the same speed and in the same direction until an external force acts upon it
NEWTON’S SECOND LAW OF MOTION

The second law states that the acceleration of an object is dependent upon two variables - the
net force acting upon the object and the mass of the object. Newton's second law is often stated
as F=ma, which means the force (F) acting on an object is equal to the mass (m) of an object
times its acceleration (a). For example It is easier to push an empty shopping cart than a full one,
because the full shopping cart has more mass than the empty one.
NEWTON’S THIRD LAW OF MOTION

Newton's third law is: For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. The statement
means that in every interaction, there is a pair of forces acting on the two interacting objects.
The size of the forces on the first object equal s the size of the force on the second object. Foe
example a box on the ground is in equilibrium because the force of gravity is equal to the force of
the ground pushing back on it.
