INTRODUCTION
Online backup, also known as remote backup, is a method of
offsite data storage in which files, folders, or the entire contents
of a hard drive are regularly backed up on a remote server or
computer with a network connection.
The rationale behind online backup is simple. By frequently
(or continuously) backing up data on a remote hard drive, the
risk of catastrophic data loss as a result of fire, theft, file
corruption, or other disaster is practically eliminated. With a
high-speed Internet connection and a Web browser interface, the
remote files and folders appear as if they are stored on an
external local hard drive. Encryption and password protection
help to ensure privacy and security.
A number of companies provide online backup services for
subscribers whose computers are connected to the Internet,
automatically copying selected files to backup storage at the service
provider's location. A wide range of online backup services are
available to suit needs ranging from those of individual consumers to
those of large enterprises. For medium-sized and large enterprises or
for particularly valuable data, the cost of online backup can prove to be
a wise investment.
In a database, an online backup, more often called a hot backup or
dynamic backup, is a backup performed on data even though it is
actively accessible to users and may currently be in a state of being
updated. Online backups can provide a convenient solution in multi-
user systems because they do not require downtime, as does a
conventional offline (cold) backup.
CONTENTS
pros of online backup
Offers the best protection against fires, theft and natural
disasters.
Because data is replicated across several storage media, the
risk of data loss from hardware failure is very low.
Because backups are frequent or continuous, data loss is very
minimal compared to other backups that are run less
frequently.
Because it is online, it requires little human or manual
interaction after it is setup.
Files and folders are saved at an offsite data center with
advanced security to ensure that nobody can access the
cons of online backup
Is a more expensive option than local backups.
Initial or first backups can be a slow process spanning a few
days or weeks depending on Internet connection speed and
the amount of data backed up.
Can be slow to restore.
Even though this service offers security, there is the
possibility of a security breach.
If your system crashes, you can only access your stored data
if the computer you restore the files to has an internet
connection, which could potentially become quite a hassle.

PRECAUTIONS
BENEFITS
Online data storage is virtually unlimited in size.
Storage over the internet is safe, with most companies offering at least two
remote servers that will store backup copies of your data.
“Backup online” is the term for saving your work to a remote server
database over an internet connection.
Your information is secure with online data storage! No need to concern
yourself about hackers or people viewing your private information or
stealing your programs. Companies that provide these services are aware
of these potential problems and make sure all of your data is stored and
encrypted without your specific pass key.
BENEFITS
Online data storage is a hot new business field, with many companies
getting involved. This makes services competitive for your business.
You can set up your computer so that your information will save into your
online backup account automatically.
Saving to the cloud means that you are saving to hard drives in a remote
location.
Online backup service is safe and reliable.
Online backup service gives you access to your files from virtually
anywhere.
Backup online will create a backup of your entire computer hard disc in
PRECAUTIONS
The first step in insuring any amount of property — cyber or otherwise —
is to know exactly what it is that you’re working with and hoping to
secure. Taking account of all the data you’d like to back up is an essential
primary precaution when it comes to online backup.
Encrypting your files isn’t a practice that is reserved for the big name tech
companies. In fact, everyone can encrypt their data safely these days for a
very low cost. In case you forgot, encrypting your files means that you’ve
installed a code or password that is only recognizable and readable to you.
For those who have high security standards for the content they’re backing
up, it may be worth considering utilizing two separate online backup
services in order to layer your protection.

CONCLUSION
Our whole lives are now stored on our computers such as our photos,
music, movies, files and more. But what happens if your computer crashes
or it is lost or stolen? It is now more important than ever to start backing up
your hard drive so that you will never lose those priceless photos, important
documents, or MP3s and movies you have purchased over the internet since
you already have full CD or DVD racks with a physical copy. By choosing an
online backup provider, you can easily store all your files online without
thinking of losing them. If your computer crashes, you don’t need to worry
because with a few clicks you can download a full restore of your files and
documents to your computer over the internet.
