BIOGRAPHY

•Catalino "Lino" Ortiz Brocka, award-winning director who became the Philippine National Artist of Cinema
in 1997. He is a film and television director who promoted the term "freedom of expression" in the
Philippine constitution. Brocka brought her social activist spirit to the screen, leaving behind 66 films that
brought life and hope to marginalized sectors of society.

•He also staged plays with the same zeal and served in organizations offering alternative visions, such as the
Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) and Concerned Artists of the Philippines (CAP). With
his caliber, he has won numerous awards and accolades at home and abroad from recognized institutions
such as PCC, FAMAS, TOYM and the Cannes Film Festival.

• Lino Brocka left behind his masterpieces, bequeathing to our country a legacy of film harvesting; a
generosity of extraordinary images; memorable conversations about love, betrayal, and redemption;
pestilence and plenty, all geared towards the recovery and rediscovery of our nation. Among Brocka's films,
to name but a few: "Santiago" (1970), "Wanted: Perfect Mother" (1970), "Tubog sa Ginto" (1971),
"Stardoom" (1971), " Tinimbang Ka Ngunit Kulang” (1974), “Maynila: Sa Kuko ng Liwanag” (1975),
“Insiang” (1976), “Jaguar” (1979), “Bona” (1980), “Macho Dancer” (1989), "Orapronobis" (1989) ),
"Makiusap Ka sa Diyos" (1991).
