Emile Durkheim • was one of the founding father of sociology. He is best known in criminology for his concept of anomie, an important element in strain theory, and the idea that some level of crime is normal. His major books are • THE DIVISION OF LABOR IN SOCIETY (1893), • THE RULES OF SOCIOLOGICAL METHOD (1895), SUICIDE (1897), AND • THE ELEMENTARY FORMS OF THE RELIGIOUS LIFE (1912). Durkheim claimed that a key contributor to social cohesion and a preserver of stability is the “conscience collective,” which consists of moral, religious, and cognitive beliefs and sentiments. Durkheim viewed crime as resulting from society's response, a relativist and sociological conception. They learn that they are favorable to crime and get exposed to criminal models. • Primary groups like the family, friends, and peer group have a large impact on what they learn. However, one does not have to be directly linked with others to learn from them. For example, an individual who witnesses someone they respect committing a crime, who is then reinforced for that crime, is then more likely to commit a crime themselves DepEd logs over 260K cases of physical bullying in SY 2021-2022

Robbery, theft, murder, rape etc. • If a person's parents need surgery and there's no money to pay the bills, He/she may think of robbing or stealing to have some money due to the strong relationship. • If a father has strong feelings toward his daughter, he may rape her.
