Shinso Pile Foundation

Preface
• It is a Cast in situ type of pile foundation
• It is also called Japanese Style caisson type pile foundation
• This method does not require any big Pile driver machinery
• If space is constraint while construction of Foundation, Shinso pile
method is adopted.
• This piling method is used at various location in Japan, its seldom
used in India.

Methodology - I
• Stage 1: Pit is excavated and Ring frame is inserted. (Manually or by
small machinery)
• Stage 2: Ring Frames are placed, as excavation is continued deeper,
Dewatering of ground water is done by pump if required. Ring frames
are placed at 750mm approximately (may vary as per soil strata and
design).
• Stage 3: Shotcrete is done to make the ring arrangement stable, bulb is
excavated and various inspection such as depth diameter inspections,
Bearing capacity inspections are carried out.
Methodology - II
• Stage 4 – Reinforcement Gauge is lowered are per the design and
actual site inspections can be conducted.
• Stage 5 - Concreting is done and the pile is filled.
Types of Shinso Pile
• Method I
• By using Manpower
Excavation, Winch and
Buckets.
• This method is used when
space is a constraint.
• Time required in this
construction method is
more.
Types of Shinso Pile
• Method II
• By using Manpower
Excavation, small
Backhoe and Crane
• More space is required
• Less Time is required
for this method

Examples
• Shinso pile is proposed at HSR chainage 405.141 Kms (GAD 30) in
MAHSR Project. (yet to be finalized) at NH- 8 crossing, Pier number
2 (P2) is planned in the divider of the road as space is constraint thus
shinso pile is proposed.
