How are metals and non-metals useful to us?

Metals and non-metals are very useful materials. Certain metals

have certain unique properties which useful in different situations.
For example-
● Copper is used to make wires as it is a good conductor of
electricity.
● Gold and silver are used to make jewellery due to its lustrous
property.
● Aluminium is used for decorating food because it does not react
with the food and therefore does not change its taste.
Uses of metals :-

Metals are used for a variety of purposes such as:

● Mercury:- It is used in the making of thermometers.
● Zinc:- Zinc is most commonly used for galvanisation (The process in which
rusting is prevented by coating a layer of Zinc on iron)
● Iron:- It is one of the most commonly used metal. It is most commonly used
in the manufacture of cars, bolts, nails, pipes, tools and railroad tracks.
Uses of non metals:-

● Silicon:- Used in the manufacture of of semiconductors and

microchips.
● Phosphorus:- it used as a fertilizer and fireworks:
● Nitrogen:- Nitrogen is used for packing food items such as chips
● Sulphur:- It is used for making gunpowder. It is also used in the
production of matches of matches, dyes, fungicides and
