Recapitulation
• An Operating System (OS) is defined as a system
software that makes the computer run.
• E.g.: Windows 7, Windows 10, Linux
• A user interface (UI) refers to the part of an operating
system, program, or device that allows a user to enter
and receive information.
• There are two types of Interface:
1. CUI(Character User Interface)
2. GUI(Graphical User Interface)
Taskbar
The long horizontal bar at
the bottom of the screen is
known as Taskbar.
Parts of Taskbar
• There are five parts of taskbar:
Start Button
Quick Launch Bar
Notification Area
Clock
Show Desktop Button
Start Button

The button at the left


corner of the taskbar
is known as Start
Button. Clicking on it
opens up a list of
commands called
Start menu.
Quick Launch Bar
• It contains the program which can opened
quickly on single clicking only. It lies on the
right of the Start button.
Notification Area
• The notification area lies to the left of the
clock and at the right side of the taskbar. It
gives general information about internet
connection, volume and PC related issue. It
was previously known as System Tray
Clock &Show Desktop Button
• Clock: It provides
the time as well as
the date.

• Show Desktop Icon:


It is a thin vertical
bar. It minimizes all
open window.
Summary
• Taskbar: The long horizon bar at the bottom of the screen is
