What is operating system
(OS)?
• Most important software that makes a
computer work.
• Controls the hardware devices.
• Allows software in the computer to run.

• It is also called the work area.


• Icons, the taskbar, Start button, and
search bar- on the desktop.
Taskbar

• Long horizontal bar at the bottom of the


computer screen.
• Contains different parts namely, the Start
button, the Search bar, the taskbar icons, the
notification area, system time and show
desktop button.
Icons
• Small image that represents
the program, file, or folder in a
computer.
• Provides user with easy access
to programs and allows them to
open programs faster by simply
clicking on them.

Taskbar
• Taskbar icons- Programs that are currently opened and “pinned” or
positioned in the taskbar so that you can easily see and open them.
• Notification area- located at the right side of the taskbar and contains
some other additional icons or programs that you easily open on the
computer.
• System Time- Displays the current time.
• Start Button- Square button with the Microsoft logo located at the left
end of the taskbar. You can use it to open the Start menu and see the
files in it.
• Search bar- allows you to locate programs and files in your computer.

Window
• Rectangular box that acts as a container of a program. When you
launch a program, the window designed for that particular program
opens.
• It controls several buttons, menus, and images that allow you to
interact with it and perform task.
