What is operating system?
The operating system is the most important
program in the computer. An operating system
performs four (4) primary functions.
1. It manages and controls the hardware connected to a
computer.
2. It helps other programs running on a computer to use the
hardware.
3. It helps you organize and manage files and folders on
the computer.
4. It provides a user interface that allows you to interact
with the hardware, the operating system itself, and other
programs.

1. Printer

STEP 2: Connect the included cable (usually a USB cable) from
the printer to the computer.

STEP 3: On your computer, locate the Printer settings. If
you're using a Windows computer, you'll find these in
the Control Panel. Look for the option to Add a printer, then
follow the instructions that appear.

STEP 4: Now it's time to try printing something! For example,
you could try printing this test page. After you click the link,
select File > Print from your web browser's menu, or simply
press Ctrl+P on your keyboard.

STEP 5: A dialog box will appear. Locate and select the new
printer from the list, then click Print.

STEP 6: The item will then be printed. But if it doesn't work,
don't panic! You can try using some of the solutions to common
problems below.

2. Scanner

STEP 1: Open the Scanner and
insert the document that is to be
scanned face out.

STEP 2: Press the button on the


side of the right side of the scanner
that has an icon of a scanner.

STEP 3: Click on the scan button


on the window like the one shown
below.

STEP 4: Wait while the scanner
scans the document.

STEP 5: If you have more


documents to scan follow steps 1, 3
and 4 again clicking on the scan
button like in the window below
(instead of the one from step 2).

STEP 6: Note the location of the


file in the directory tree that is on
the left side.� You can click and
drag the scanned picture from the
main menu to the desktop for easier
management.� Below is a screen
shot of the final window.
