National Artists of the Philippines

The rank and title of a National Artist is given to a


Filipino citizen who has given significant
contributions to the development of Philippine arts and
letters, such as: Music, Dance, Theater, Visual Arts,
Literature, Film and Broadcast Arts, and
Architecture or Allied Arts.

National Artists of the Philippines

To be a National Artist, one must be recommended


by the National Commission for Culture and the
Arts (NCCA) and the
Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP). The
title will then be bestowed by means of a
Presidential Proclamation.

Proclaimed National Artists make up the Order of


National Artists (Orden ng Gawad Pambansang
Alagad ng Sining).

▪ The rank and title of National Artist, as proclaimed by the


President of the Philippines;
▪ The National Artist gold-plated medallion minted by the
Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and citation;
▪ A lifetime emolument and material and physical benefits
comparable in value to those received by the highest
officers of the land.
