WORD DETECT

1. Not moving; stationary AT REST

2. Does not change; continuous CONSTANT

3. Resisting change; measured by mass INERTIA

4. Any push or pull; strength FORCE

5. -9.8 m/s2 pulls us downward GRAVITY

Force is any push or pull
DIFFERENT TYPES OF FORCES:
1.Applied force
2.Gravitational force
3.Normal force
4.Elastic force
5.Tension force
6.Frictional force
Why is it necessary to always use seat belts when driving or
riding a car?

• Prevent accident
• To protect passengers from injuries in the case of an accident
• As per Newton's first law of motion, when a car abruptly stops or
crashes, Due to inertia of motion, a person sitting in a moving car
may be pushed forward when the car stops abruptly, potentially
causing damage.
NET FORCE
PRACTICE EXERCISES
Direction: Calculate the net force acting on the box in the following problems. Make sure to
include the direction of the net force (left or right).
ANSWERS: 3 POINTS EACH NUMBER

1) 4 N left
2) 5 N left
3) 0 N
4) 9 N right
5) 4 N left
Types
of
Forces
APPLIED
FORCE
Force that is applied on
an object through direct
pushing or pulling
GRAVITATIONAL FORCE

Force exerted by gravity;

also known as weight;
mass times gravity
NORMAL
FORCE Force that is perpendicular
to the surface an object is
in contact with; if there’s
no surface in contact, then
there’s no normal force
ELASTIC
FORCE
Force present in springs
TENSION
FORCE
Force that is present in
cables, strings, cords, and
other similar materials
FRICTIONAL
FORCE

Force that impedes motion

When any force is applied on an object, it
can change the object’s current state of
motion.
e object may speed up, slow down, or
stop when a force is applied on it. So, if
there is no force
acting on an object, the object will be
either at rest or in constant motion along
a straight line
NEWTON’S LAW OF MOTION

1.Law of INERTIA
2.Law of ACCELERATION
3.Law of INTERACTION or law of ACTION and REACTION
Newton’s First Law of Motion (law of inertia)

- states that a body at rest will continue to be at rest, and a body in constant motion will continue to be in
constant motion along a straight line unless acted on by a net external force.

Inertia is the tendency of a body to resist any change in its

motion. an empty cabinet is easier to push than a cabinet full of
books. This means that the greater the mass of the object, the
greater the inertia it has. also, the lesser the mass, the lesser the
inertia.
Consider a book at rest on top of a table.
Figure 1.1 shows that his are two types of
force acting on the book, but it still remains at
rest. The normal force acting on the book is
balanced by another force, which is the
gravitational force.

Normal force (Fn) is a force that exists

whenever an object is in contact with a surface.
It is always perpendicular to the surface the
object is in contact with. On the other hand, the
downward force acting on the object is the
gravitational force (Fg), which is equal to the
weight of the book.
When two types of force acting on an object are
balance, there is no net external force on it. This means
that the object will continue its current state of motion,
which is either at rest or in constant motion. However,
when a net external force is acting on an object, it may
experience a change in its current state of motion

The thrust force is 50 newtons (N), and the frictional

force is 50 N. Notice that the forces have the same
magnitude but they act in opposite directions. The two
forces are balanced, so the object will continue to move
at constant velocity. If the sum of the forces acting on an
object is zero, it is either at rest or in constant motion.
One common trick in magic shows is quickly pulling a tablecloth from a table full of different
objects, but none of these objects will be displaced. This is because of newton’s first law of motion.
The objects are at rest on the table. When the tablecloth is pulled very quickly, the force is exerted
on the tablecloth and not on the objects. So, the objects on the table remain at rest.
