 Values?
 Attitudes toward issue?
 Other relevant background?

 Anticipate opposing arguments


 Don’t just “preach to the choir”

 The impression you give of yourself in your presentation

 Establish yourself as:


 Honest
 Reliable
 Sincere
 Competent

 Support what you say


 Do homework on the issue
 Consider opposing arguments, sometimes making concessions

 Logical coherence
 Stems form clear thesis/assertion
 Methods of argument:
 Appeal to reason
 Inductive reasoning
 Deductive reasoning
 Cause and effect
 Present evidence and testimony (sources)
 Avoid fallacies
 Avoid emotional appeals
