History
• The history of Geneva since World War II
has been marked by steady economic growth
, halted only temporarily by the oil crisis of
the early 1970s. This prosperity was
experienced almost entirely in the
commercial and financial sectors; industry
declined radically, affording employment to
only 20 percent of the work force in 1980, as
opposed to more than 36 percent in 1950.
Building alone among Geneva’s industries
flourished after the war, as offices, houses,
and shops—indeed whole new suburbs—had
to be provided for the ever-increasing
population.

great city that I would
love to one day visit. Its
beautiful and offers many
fun activities. I mostly
want to go because of the
outdoor scenery. I would
live to experience that one
day.
