SEMESTER-WISE GUIDELINES for Student
Counseling Sessions
• Student counseling sessions can play an important role in guiding the
students in the right direction and should be more focused on students’
professional development with particular reference to development of soft
skills. Teachers/Tutors at SUIT should conduct the counseling sessions
within their tutorial groups (already assigned) through proper channel, at
least one a week or fortnightly after properly scheduling these sessions and
ensuring their students’ presence

Objectives:
• Transformation from annual to semester system (For fresh students).
• Motivation to learn and improve incrementally.
• Character/personality building and development of soft skills.
• Confidence building to express opinions/ideas.
• Development of EQ (Emotional Intelligence Quotient.)
• Morality and ethics (values)
• Nationalism/patriotism
• Enrichment of job hunt skills.

Guidelines:

• Tentative guidelines & students’/teachers’ inputs can also be taken for


different sessions from time to time. Every faculty member must make
sure to communicate in English with the students and must encourage
the students to speak in English amongst themselves. Within few
semesters, students will develop the habit of speaking in English and will
be confident enough to express themselves verbally and in written. The
departments should assign this responsibility to the tutors, to allocate
45-60 minutes to discuss the below mentioned topics after properly
scheduling these sessions weekly or fortnightly.

1st Semester (Students should be encouraged to
communicate in English from day one)
• Nationalism/patriotism, religious and moral norms and ethics, dress code
• SUIT - Background, SUIT Past, Present and future perspectives.
• Semester system and concept of semester system results.
• Concepts of probation, withdrawal and freeze.
• Concepts of quiz, assignments and sessional etc.
• Application writing.
• Honesty, integrity and tolerance.
• Basic interpersonal communicative skills.
• Participation in extra-curricular activities.
• Working in Teams.
• Discussion and debates forums
• Students’ Selected Topics & Presentations/Introduce yourself.

• Nationalism/patriotism and concept of Rizk-e-Halal
• Role of students in nation building \ social responsibilities.
• Public speaking on academic \ current affairs
• Report writing & research skills (on projects/internship/research reports particularly for two
years programs)
• Case studies discussion (Particularly on Entrepreneurship).
• Introduction to IELTS and TOEFL.
• Students’ Selected Topics & Presentations on Current Affairs (Particularly on
Entrepreneurship & International Relations etc).

• How to prepare and deliver presentation

• Personality building
• CV finalization and Job hunting.
• FAQs in interviews (Mock interviews)
• Topics for group discussion (Mock group discussions)
• What is a formal dress code?
• Impression Management tactics.
• How to sell yourself / Salary negotiations
• Life in Europe, America & Far East countries etc.
• How to seek scholarship national/international universities.
• How to present research articles in workshops/seminars
• How to present Projects / Internship orientation
• Question-Answer session techniques in seminars/workshops/conferences.
• Mock GRE tests (Preparation for NTS exam)
• Mock Interviews with senior faculty members.
• Mock tests for IELTS and TOEFL.
• Students’ Selected Topics & Presentations on Current Affairs (Particularly on Entrepreneurship & International Relations etc.)

Marketing Strategy Points
• There should be proper professional video and photo gallery of the events. The events pictures and videos are not uploaded regularly
on the social media, website etc.

• There must be department based activities and societies. These societies should participate in provincial and national level
competitions with proper media campaign.

• The bill boards should be placed nears educational institutions with limited and to the point information. With Billboards, pamphlets,
broachers (Urdu and English) should be placed in academies, universities gates, shops etc. for vast level of admission campaign at grass
root level.

• There is no social media ad’s campaign weekly. The Facebook page should be update with day to day activities, (Pictures, videos), the
social media in charge should answer the audiences queries and other questions on page actively. The ad’s should be professional and
should reflect our strong areas in minimum time. Today is world of social media.

• There is no presence on the Instagram. While according to insights, Instagram is more effective way to awareness regarding brand etc.

• There is no regular advertisement in national newspapers except “Ajj” and some other unpopular newspapers. The radio should also be
utilized during admission campaign.

• Standard Msg’s should be sent throughout Pakistan on mobile regarding admissions as I received text messages in Urdu

on daily basis at morning regarding Shifa International Hospital.

• There should be a proper business WhatsApp where all the features should be available for the audience when they

contact us.

• There should be departmental ad’s on screens include strong promotional video’s and pictures.

• The advertisements on BRT Buss with proper MoU for a whole year i-e, as did by the AH group of companies.

• There should be a separate YouTube channel upon which universities, departmental events videos and audios should be

posted and boosted once in a week for the general awareness of the masses throughout the Pakistan.

• Mobile application that facilitate the non-users of laptop and able them to get instant notification regarding admissions,

activities, university updates etc.

Marketing Strategy Points

• There should be proper transport facility for the evening students, this step in boost evening admissions. As other universities

providing bus faculty for the evening students.

• Regular faculty for evening as the students is not satisfied with visiting faculty. Word of mouth also increase and decrease

university admissions. The university should facilitate the students well in order to have good remarks via word of mouth in

their community.

• There should be monthly college visit i-e, awareness seminars regarding different programs. The college should be invited here

in campus for visit. The university can also negotiate with different college regarding commission based on the number of

admission from their respective colleges.

• Separate Social Media In charge should be hire for social media campaigns.

• Community based awareness sessions in Hujra’s etc. the more we are close to community we can capture the market easily.
