PRAYER
Lord Jesus, You willed to become poor, Give us eyes and heart
directed toward the poor, Help us to recognize You in them – In their
thirst, their hunger, their loneliness and their misfortune. Enkindle
within our Vincentian family, unity, simplicity, humility and the fire
of love that burned in St. Vincent de Paul and St. Louise de Marillac.
Strengthen us, so that, faithful to the practice of these virtues, We
may contemplate You, and serve you, in the person of the poor. And
may one day be united with You and them in your kingdom.

Sts. Vincent and Louise, pray for us!

O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to
thee!
Blessed Madeleine Fontaine, Intercede for us!

The first player will draw the word given the
teacher and he/she will show it to the next
and the next player will write the word
based on the drawing, and show it to the
next player and the next player will draw
again, until the last player. The last player
will guess the correct word.

THE UNIVERSE
Objectives

at the end of the lesson the students should:

01 understand the theories on the origin of

the universe

02
explain the importance of the theories on
the origin of the universe in our daily lives
construct their own understanding about
03 the theories on the origin of the universe

COSMOLOGY
The Study of Universe

COSMOLOGIST
Who study cosmology
GEOCENTRIC
• Aristotle and Ptolemy
described a model of
the universe that is
geocentric.
• This model locates
the Earth at its
center.
HELIOCENTRIC
• Nicolaus
Copernicus
• This model
represent the sun
as the center of
the Universe.
Edwin Hubble
• Edwin Hubble was an
American Austronomer.
• He discorvered that the
Andromeda Nebula was actually
2.5 million light years away.
• It would take 2.5 million
years for its light to reach the
Earth.
Nebula
A nebula is a giant cloud of
dust and gas in space.
Galaxy
A galaxy is a system of stars,
stellar remnants, interstellar
gas, dust, and dark matter
bound together by gravity.
Vesto Slipher
• In 1912, he
observed that the
galaxies rotate and
move apart
Red Shift
• Edwin Hubble observed that all galaxies
seems to move aways from the Milky
way. These patterns were later called as
red shift.
• the wavelength of the light is stretched,
so the light is seen as 'shifted' towards
the red part of the spectrum.
Red Shift
Hubble's Law
• It states that the farther away
a galaxy, the fastest it moves
away from us. This made him
conclude that the universe is
expanding.
Hubble's Telescope

• It was not the first space telescope,

but it is one of the largest and most
versatile, renowned both as a vital
research tool and as a public
relations boon for astronomy. The
Hubble telescope is named after
astronomer Edwin Hubble and is
one of NASA's Great Observatories.
Big Bang Theory
• It is the modern
and widely
accepted
explanation of
the origin of the
universe.
George Lemaitre
• He proposed what is
now known as the Big
bang Theory.
• He explain the expansion
of the universe.

between the Sun

Solar Nebula Theory
• Alastair G.W.
Cameron in 1973.

SYSTEMS
Objectives

at the end of the lesson the students should:

01 describe he characteristic of the Earth

that are necessary to support life; amd

explain the flow of matter and energy between

02 the lithosphere, cryosphere, atmosphere,
hydrosphere, and biosphere.
EARTH
LA TI ERRA

SYSTEMS
Hydrosphere
• The hydrosphere
includes water that is
on the surface of the
planet, underground,
and in the air.
• Water covers 71
percent of the Earth's
surface.
Atmosphere
• Atmosphere is made of
the layers of gases
surrounding a planet or
other celestial body.
• Earth's atmosphere is
composed of about 78%
nitrogen, 21% oxygen,
and one percent other
gases.
Biosphere
• The biosphere is made up of
the parts of Earth where life
exists, all ecosystems.
• The biosphere extends from
the deepest root systems of
trees, to the dark environments
of ocean trenches, to lush rain
forests, high mountaintops, and
transition zones like this one,
where ocean and terrestrial
ecosystems meet.
Lithosphere
• The lithosphere is the
solid, outer part of
Earth.
• The lithosphere
includes the brittle
upper portion of the
mantle and the crust,
the outermost layers
of Earth's structure.
Cryosphere
• The cryosphere is the
frozen water part of
the Earth system.
• This includes frozen
parts of the ocean,
such as waters
surrounding
Antarctica and the
Arctic.
THE EARTH
THAT
LA TIERRA

SUPPORT LIFE
• Water is essential to life.
• Earth's atmosphere is also important
factor in making Earth ideal planet to
host life.
• Plate tectonics is vital in making the
planet habitable.
• Energy is needed for life.
