the Canton Tower is a 604-metre (1,982 ft) tall multi-purpose observation tower in Haizhou District of Guangzhou (historically known as Canton). The tower was completed in 2009 and became operational on September 29, 2010 for the 2010 Asian Games. The tower was briefly named the world's tallest, rather than the CN Tower, before being overtaken by Tokyo Skytree. It was the tallest building in China prior to the construction of the Shanghai Tower on August 3, 2013. It is now the second tallest tower and the fourth tallest free-standing building in the world.
