the difference of the Volcanism
Theory and Continental Drift Theory

coastline that stretches for 1, 150 miles
the country boast for many theories.
The Theories
in the
Formation of
the Philippines
There are two main theories on how the
formation of Philippine Archipelago was
Formed
 Volcanism Theory and Continental
Shelf Theory.
Volcanism
Theory
Volcanism Theory
 Dr. Balley Wills (1857- 1949). An
American geologist, believed that the
Philippines was formed through a
phenomenon called Volcanism
Volcanism Theory
 The Findings were Further confirmed by
the fact that the Philippines is one of
the countries located in the Pacific Ring
of Fire.
Revolve
 Move in a circular orbit around.
Continental
Drift Theory
Philipine as a
TROPICAL
COUNTRY
Continental Shelf/Drift Theory
 According to the continental Drift
theory, the continent were formed
through diastrophism, the movement
of the solid part of the world.
 Because of the extreme movement of the outer rocky portion
of the Earth’s surface , the rapid rotation of the Earth caused
the huge continental divide.
 Eventually, continents formed. Over the time, some part of
the land of mainland Asia were separated from its causing the
archipelago to be formed like the PHILIPPINES.
 The Philippine is believed that land bridges once connected
the Philippines to mainland Asia. It is believed that the
Philippines was attached to Vietnam before.
