about ANG KABATAAN KARON

By Julie Wathne (Intern at CLB)
The purpose
• How does the target group of ANG KABATAAN
KARON experience the concept about risk
communication?

• What is good?

• What could be different?

The attenders
1. Christine, 23 years old. From Cebu City.

2. Friday, 20 years old. From Cebu City.

3. Joys, 17 years old. From Mandaue.

4. Yul, 24 years old. From Cebu City.

What is good?
• Joys: ”I really want what is the best for the youth also, and this organisation really includes
me. Not just me, not just the radio broadcasters, but also my fellow youth, like the other
people, because it will help them to practise their rights. To give them more knowledge about
their rights and everything.”

• Christine: “I do think that it is a good purpose, especially the name of ANG KABATAAN
KARON, which means “The youth today”. The name fits the target group with the young
adults from 15-30 years. They are the struggling ones. I think it is a very good way, if they
advertise themselves more, so these people will know them better. I do like the concept that
the youth can get some advices from them.”

• Yul: ” The vision is there. It is a nice project.”

• Friday: “I like that they speak to their fellow youth about a certain topic that will inspire them
and influence them, and to improve them selves, and to know better about their rights. I
really support it.”
What can be different?
• Yul: “I think the marketing needs a big push. You know some special guests that the youth
can relate to,. Not just business managers. You know like the normal people like successful
skaters or people that they actually look up to, so they can relate. And then those influencers
have different following. Then they will share it on their profiles and there marked is going to
be aware of your marked. So it like a partnership. You have to talk to them in their language,
so they will understand. So they can see that this is possible.”

• Joys: ”I do think they could invite some social media stars or bloggers, or others that are very
popular to the youth, because those people has a very wide platform, and they can reach out
a lot of youth too. Because a lot of young people now, they really want to go to scroll or to
watch the videos about their idols. And then if they see those idols in a certain podcast or in
a certain video, where they are talking to a certain topic. I am sure that they will be hugged.
And they will watch that video. A lot more youth will be able to note the information’s that
they are giving. The audiences will be curious about what their idols and the people that they
are looking up to are talking about. They will listen to them, and eventually know their topics
they are tackling.”
What could be different?
• Friday: ”They could try advertising. They could try letting people know what they are talking
about by advertising. And then make some cliff hangers from each episode. That can pick the
interested for the listeners.”

• Christine: ”They could have this kind of activity where their listeners can actually send them
some stories or questions, and then the program can read it in the program. Sometimes live,
like you cannot really keep up on the comments, because there can be so many.”
The conclusion
What is working:
The target group really like the concept. They feel inspired by your work. The vision is
there.

Ideas of what that could be different:

• Use other platforms as well
• Invite other types of people in the studio such as bloggers or people that the youth
can relate to.
• Include the listeners by letting them send stories and questions.
• Make some cliff hangers for every episode.
Your thoughts
• What do you think when you reed the quotes?

• What do you think is good?
