Work in terms of Number of Men

 W=Time x Rate ( 1 Man)

 More people finish the work in lesser time,

and lesser persons take more time to finish work.

W=Time x Rate x Number of Men

OR
W= MxDxH

3500 cadets have provisions for 20 days training camp and 5
days of social work at the rate of 500 gm per day per cadet. If
the provisions are to last for 10 days more and the ration is
reduce to 400 gm per day, how many cadets must leave the
camp?
(a) 372 Cadets (b) 390 Cadets

If A is as twice efficient than B. They can complete certain
work in 28 days together. Find the time required for B to
complete it alone?

If 15 men/ 24 women/ 36 children can complete a work in 12
days with 8 working hours per day. Then find men required to
complete 2 (1/4) work when 12 women, 6 children and some men
working 6 hours per day for 30 days.

Pipes and Cisterns
Explanation
 In this, the concept is to take those
efficiencies in negative who is doing the
destructive work.

 Take the efficiency of pipes as positive

and of leakage as negative.
Two pipes X and Y can fill a cistern in 6 and 12 minutes
respectively. How long will it take to fill the cistern. If both pipes
are opened simultaneously?

(a) 9

(b) 4

(c) 8

(d) 10
Pipe A and B can fill the tank in 12 hours and 15 hours
respectively.

An outlet pipe C can empty the tank in 20 hours.

In how many hours the tank will get filled if all the three pipes
are opened simultaneously.

a) 5 hours

b) 10 hours

c) 15 hours

d) 12 hours
Two pipes A and B can separately fill a tank in 12 minutes and 15
minutes respectively. Both the pipes are opened together but 4
minutes after the start the pipe A is turned off.

How much time will it take to fill the tank?

(a) 6 mins

(b) 8 mins

(c) 12 mins

(d) 10 mins
Two taps can separately fill a cistern 10 minutes and 15 minutes
respectively and when the waste pipe is open, they can together fill it in
18 minutes.

The waste pipe can empty the full cistern in?

(a) 9 mins

(b) 10 mins

(c) 13.27 mins

(d) 15 mins
One pipe can fill a tank three times as fast as another pipe. If
together the two pipes can fill the tank in 36 minutes, then
the slower pipe alone will be able to fill the tank in:

(a) 81 min.

(b) 108 min.

(c) 144 min.

(d) 192 min

A tap can fill a tank in 6 hours. Afterhalf the tank is filled,
three more similar taps are opened. What is the total
time
taken to fill the tank completely?

(a) 3 hrs 15 min

(b) 3 hrs 45 min

(c) 4 hrs

(d) 4 hrs 15 min

Two pipes can fill a tank in 20 and 24 minutes respectively and a
waste pipe can empty 3 gallons per minute. All the three pipes
working together can fill the tank in 15 minutes. The capacity of
the tank is:

(a) 60 gallons

(b) 100 gallons

(c) 120 gallons

(d) 180 gallons

Pipe A and B can fill the tank in 12 hours and 15 hours respectively.

An outlet pipe C can empty the tank in 20 hours.

All the three pipes are opened simultaneously and after 4 hours pipe B
is converted into the outlet pipe and pipe C is converted into the inlet pipe.

Then find how many hours the tank was filled.

(a) 9 hrs

(b) 7.5 hrs

(c) 12 hrs

(d) 15 hrs
Pipe A and B can fill the tank in 12 hours and 15 hours respectively. An outlet pipe C can
empty the tank in 20 hours.

All the three pipes are opened simultaneously at 8 AM and the tank gets filled by 5 PM.

Find at what time the leakage was closed.

(a) 2 PM

(b) 2:30 PM

(c) 3 PM

(d) 3:30 Pm
