Juan F. Nakpil is a visionary and innovator in
(1973)
Philippine architecture. He is an architect,
teacher, and civic leader. In essence, Nakpil's
greatest contribution is his belief in Philippine
Architecture, which advocates for architecture
that reflects Philippine traditions and culture.

Modern Philippine architecture was pioneered by Pablo Sebero


Antonio. His basic design is focused on minimalism and lack
of clutter. The lines are straight and smooth, and any curves
are incorporated into the structure.

LOCSIN
(1990)

Every Locsin Building is unique and distinguishable


as a Locsin, with themes of floating scale, the
duality of light and heavy, buoyant and huge
recurring in his major works.
Locsin built 75 dwellings and 88 structures between
1955 and 1994, including 11 churches and chapels,
23 public buildings, 48 commercial buildings, six
large hotels, and an airport terminal building.

ILDEFONSO P. SANTOS, JR.
NATIONAL ARTIST FOR ARCHITECTURE (2006)

Ildefonso Paez Santos, Jr. made a name for himself in the


Philippines by leading the practice of landscape design, an allied
field of architecture, and then creating four decades of exemplary
and engaging work that included hundreds of parks, plazas,
gardens, and other outdoor settings that have enriched
contemporary Filipino life.

ZARAGOZA

Despite his passion for liturgical structures, Zaragoza


excelled in secular works: 36 office buildings, 4 hotels, 2
hospitals, 5 low-cost and middle-income housing projects,
and more than 270 residences – all illustrating his
typological flexibility and mastery of modernist
architectural vocabulary.

NATIONAL ARTIST FOR ARCHITECTURE (2018)

Filipino was planned by Ar. Bobby Maosa. He bravely and


enthusiastically crafted original Filipino shapes, spaces with intricate
and refined features, from the 1960s in his landmark design of the
Sulo Hotel until his retirement around 2015. What matters most,
however, is that Maosa was at the center of a Philippine architectural
movement.
