INTRODUCTION

 Guidance is the process of personal and professional growth of an


individual in a scientific way.
 Mother, father, grand parents, and teacher and other elder, home, school
and society guide youngsters for successful living.
 Informal/ advice giving is called informal guidance.
 Professional guidance is called formal guidance.
 Guidance aims at making the individual self directing, self- accepting and
self- understanding.
MEANING OF GUIDANCE

 Guidance means ‘to direct’ ‘to point out’, ‘to show the path’.
 It is the assistance or help by a more experienced person to a less
experienced person to solve certain major problems of the individual like
educational, vocational, personal etc.
 Guidance is a concept as well as a process.
 As a concept guidance is concerned with the optimal development of the
individual.
 Guidance is a life long process.
 Guidance need it even from his /her infancy to death ( in all the stages of
life ).
DEFINITION OF GUIDANCE

 According to Jones:-
Guidance is the help given by one person to another in making choice and
adjustments and in solving problems.

 According to Skinner:-
Guidance is a process of helping young person learns to adjust to self, to
other, and to circumstances.

 Self understanding and self direction: guidance help in understanding
one’s strength, limitations.
 Guidance help individual to develop ability to solve problems and take
decisions.
 To plan for further education.
 Better family life.

EDUCATIONAL GUIDANCE

 Educational guidance is concerned with assistance given to child in their


choice and adjustment with relation to school, curriculum, course, school
life.
 It is deal with such problems of education are faced by student.
 Helping a student to adjust his academic load to his ability.
 To help the child in developing good study habits.
 To help the child to adjust with the school rules, regulation, social life.
PERSONAL GUIDANCE

 Personal guidance is help the individual in his physical, emotional, social,


moral, spiritual development and adjustment.
 Help the individual to solve his emotional, social, ethical and moral as well
as health problem.
 This type of guidance start from early childhood and continues throughout
the life of an individual.
 To assist the individual in taking independent decision and judgement.
VOCATIONAL GUIDANCE

 Vocational guidance is helpful for choosing the vocation.


 Vocational guidance is more careful for the development of vocational career of
student.
 To think critically regarding the choice of occupation.
 Help to develop a positive attitude toward the occupation
HEALTH GUIDANCE

 Total health prevention an curative is goal of health guidance.


 To develop proper habits;
personal cleanliness
good grooming
proper use of toilet
 In the present day the deal of health guidance related to HIV/
AIDS/transmitted diseases.
