An act instituting the comprehensive
dangerous drugs act of 2002, repealing
Republic Act No.6425, otherwise known
as the Dangerous Drugs Act of 1972, as
amended, providing funds therefore, and
for other purposes.

A drug is a chemical substance that
brings about physical, emotional or
behavioural change in a person
taking it.

WHEN ARE DRUGS HARMFUL?
Any drug may be harmful when taken in
excess. Some drugs can also be harmful if
taken in dengerous combinations or by
hypersensitive (allergic) persons in ordinary
or even small amounts.

What is Drug Abuse?
- Is the use of any chemical substance, licit
or illicit, which results in an individual’s
physical, mental or social impairment.

PRACTICES:
1. using without benefit or prescription, use of
drugs which have the capacity to alter the mood or
behaviour.
2. using drugs and substances for a purpose different
from the one for which the drug has been prescribed
3. using drugs and substances having no legitimate
medical application for purposes other than research

WHAT DRUGS ARE
COMMONLY USED?
1. Stimulants- drugs which increase
alertness and physical disposition
Ex. Amphetamine, cocaine, caffeine
and nicotine
2. Hallucinogens- psychedelics; drugs
which affect sensation, thinking, self
awareness and emotion.
Ex. LSD, Mescaline and Marijuana

3. Sedatives- drugs which may reduce
anxiety and excitement
Ex. Barbiturates, Non barbiturates,
tranquilizers and alcohol
4. Narcotics- drugs that relieve pain
and often induce sleep
Ex. Opium and its derivatives such as
morphine, codeine and heroin

ONE IS ABUSING DRUGS
1. Is irritable, discourteous, defiant
and aggressive
2. Untrustworthy and lacks self
confidence
3. Is unhealthy and unconcerned
with good grooming
4. Has a low self frustration tolerance
5. Lacks interest in his studies and
work
6. Blames everybody for his
problems

› Seek professional help if you feel you cannot cope with
your problems
› Develop strong moral and spiritual foundations

ROLE OF THE YOUTH ON DRUG
DETECTION AND PREVENTION
1. be firm to say NO to drugs
2. connect with your friends but avoid
negative peer pressure
3. make connections with your parents or
other adults
4. enjoy life and do what you love
5. follow family rules
6. get educated about alcohol and drugs
7. be a role model
8. planning ahead
9. speak out/ speak up and take control
10. get help
